The Need for a Savior
When I arrived in Kenya I did not know what to expect. I thought that as soon as I got off the plane that it would be extremely hot, humid and jungle like. But that's not how it was. It was very cool, the air was thick with smog and we were in the city. I thought that the problems that people face here in America are non-existent there, but eventually God showed me that the same addictions people face in America are faced there.
One day in the Kisii region, we did an open-air evangelism. There were lots of people at the meeting place. The plan is to do a couple of body worship songs, a testimony, a skit and a sermon. As we are doing the skit a drunk woman in the crowd begins to scream and holler. She began to come up to the team members and disturb them as they were performing the skit. In my head I think, "lady please listen, this is for your own good." Even looking at the national pastor's I could tell that they were in agreement with me. Finally someone went over to her and quiets her down. After the sermon we should have just prayed and left, but Pastor Jung told us to sing the song Heaven is My Throne. As we sang the song something in me began to move. God used that song to speak to me. God allowed me to see how totally depraved we are and how much the world was in need of a savior. The song says, "Whom of you will hear the cry of my heart," and it made so much sense to me. As I looked over at the woman lying on the ground asleep, I began to weep for her. God showed me His heart for her and how much He desired for her to be His child. As she was screaming out for someone to help her with her physical needs, God showed me a soul screaming out to be saved.
At that moment God showed me that ministry is everyday all day. When you feel like it or when you do not. When you are tired or full of energy. God mostly showed me that ministry is to the people who are just like that woman. He showed me that everyone is in need of a savior. Even though I did not get a chance to talk with that woman, God put a burden in my heart to pray for her diligently. God used her to shake me and to allow me to see what He is doing in this world. Now instead of just seeing people walking down the street, God shows me potential workers for His kingdom.
