Although initially, I didn’t have much of a desire to go to Mexico, I’m really thankful God had plans for me there this summer. Not only was I able to experience so much harvest, but my relationship with God grew more personal. For awhile I’ve been questioning if I truly believed in my heart that God is enough and as we shared the gospel continuously, it became more real to me and I grew more confident in His love. There was this one day when we visited the Good Shepherd Orphanage in Morelia where I had an opportunity to pray for this little girl. I felt so helpless because there was nothing I could do for her; I couldn’t promise her a family or stop her feelings of loneliness and tears, but it was in that moment that I realized God is enough. I kept telling her over and over again, “Dios te ama,” which means “God loves you.” It doesn’t matter if we have nothing in this world because we have everything in God, and He will provide us with what we need. Throughout the trip God allowed me to feel His heart, especially during our last week in Chilpancingo. He reminded me of how much He loves His precious children and how even just one sin breaks His heart. Through our visits to a rehab center for alcoholics and drug use as well as the juvenile center, I realized that despite how the world identifies us, we are all the same and have no excuse to judge one another or to not forgive. We are all sinners who are in dire need of God’s grace of which He offers to each and every one of us equally and lovingly.
It’s been such a blessing to witness God working in Mexico and it’s not because of anything we did. God blessed us so so much and showed us His power and faithfulness throughout the four weeks like one time when He stopped the rain right before we did our gospel presentation in Charo. Although there is still a lot of Catholic influence in Mexico, God is really working in the youth who hold the potential to change the future generations. It was amazing to hear their testimonies and how God completely changed their perspective around and brought hope to their lives. Once they find a personal relationship with God, the people of Mexico have so much passion in their hearts which was very encouraging to me. I never want to forget everything I’ve learned about myself and who God is in comparison. His love is greater than any love that anyone can give to me. I truly believe that now.
