Before going to this short-term mission’s trip to Mexico, I struggled a lot with knowing God’s heart for the Latino community at U of I. I truly felt that no one cared for the salvation of Latinos on campus. It got to the point where I thought that God had forgotten about us too. Although the Lord did do some things to show me that He saw my heart, Satan enforced the lie when I found out that a trip was going to be canceled. I thought it would be Mexico, because everyone seemed much more excited to go to Japan and to Africa. But glory to God, it was not, and now I can testify of His works among my people. Through this trip God has truly shown me that He loves my people and that His heart aches for lost souls. He is raising up workers in Mexico because he wants souls to know Him. I was able to see this so clearly in one of our visits to a juvenile prison. There I met a young man who was alive only by the grace of God. Before he was in jail, he was involved in drug trafficking. He was almost killed by one of the leaders and at that moment he told God, that if He let him live, he would serve Him. God miraculously gave him a second chance. He ended up in jail, but there he met Jesus. As we talked to him, he would us that his desire was to tell people about Christ and to become a pastor. His heart burned for lost souls. Through his testimony, and the many other wonders God is doing in Mexico, I realized that God is even lifting up people from jail to take His gospel. He is preparing this young man in jail and He is preparing many others. Mexico is in the hands of God and I am certain that He will bring revival.
